Staying Fit in Canandaigua

Canandaigua is located in the Finger Lakes region of New York State and is a great place to find and discover healthy activities to keep you or get you back into shape after a long winter. The name of the town is derived from the Seneca tribe and translates to “the chosen town”, and for those visiting Ontario County, that choice is the right one if you are looking to get or stay fit during the Spring in Canandaigua.

Walking is one of the easiest and best ways to stay in shape and to get back into a fitness routine after an extended winter break. Canandaigua offers a large variety of local and national parks that cater to walkers, joggers, and cyclists while displaying all the beauty that New York has to offer.

Kershaw Park, located on 155 Lakeshore Drive, offers 9 acres of landscaped beach, a public dock, picnic pavilions, and an open-air gazebo overlooking Canandaigua Lake. The Swimming Park at Kershaw Park opens on Memorial Day Weekend and is a great place for kids to get active and stay cool during those hot days.

Lagoon Park, located near Kershaw Park, consists of 34 acres of wetlands with walking trails, bridges, and overlooks. The park is a wildlife preserve, although fishing is permitted if you want to take a break from your activities.

The Richard P. Outhouse Memorial Park, located on Outhouse Road between County Road 30 and the Buffalo Street Extension, offers an amazing array of trails that you can take a walk through for some great exercise. The park also has a community building with a wide variety of fitness equipment, playgrounds, and basketball courts.

These are just some of the outdoor parks offered to residents of Canandaigua and Ontario County. If you are looking to get back in shape or start your fitness journey now that the weather is getting nicer, look no further than the trails or the lake for your aerobic exercise.
